I’ve shared poetry on this site for years, some of it also found its way into my book, “Younger Days and a Whisper“. Lately, with the rise of AI tools, I’ve begun transforming some of those words into songs. I know this can be a controversial topic. Questions about authorship, creativity, and what “counts” as art are real and worth exploring. For me, the experience has been very personal. Hearing my own words carried by melody and voice has added a depth I could never have accessed on the written page alone and has led me to tears on more than one occasion.
This post isn’t meant to settle the debate. It’s an invitation to experience these songs as one interpretation of what’s possible when writing meets new tools and to consider that there may be more than one valid way to think about music created in this way.
This first playlist centers on some of the most vulnerable and universal themes in my writing which center on learning to love yourself, the fear that can come with loving others, and the work it takes to move through both. These songs began as deeply personal reflections in my poetry. When set to music, they seemed to take on a new level of honesty. There’s something about hearing those words out loud, carried by melody, that makes them feel more exposed and more shared. My hope is that somewhere in these songs, you hear a piece of your own story too.
This playlist leans into an R&B soul sound, with songs centered on love, connection, and intimacy. At its core is a theme I’ve returned to often in my writing, worthiness. You’ll notice it show up in different ways here, including a reimagining of a poem I’ve explored before. In this version, the meaning shifts from inward and reflective to a focus on connection with another person.
This last playlist has songs about love, relationship challenges, betrayal, new love, and appreciating life. It is a modern country style with a male voice. I hope you enjoy some of the word play and that the lyrics connect with you and your experiences.
For me, digital tools have opened the door to share poems and lyrics in ways I never could before. The tools may be new, but the need to be heard, to connect, to make meaning of our lives through words and music hasn’t changed at all. I share because I hope the words will find you when you need them, where you need them. -AYA
If any of the songs connected with you, please give them a like or a share.
Thanks,
Amanda
