What I saw

There’s an old ritual meditation where you pretend you’re dead.

When I did that, here are some things that entered my head.

You are important to me.

Small words and deeds always saw me through.

I had such a wonderful friend in you.

My life is enriched beyond measure

Full of love, fun, happiness, tears, and trials

You always felt close to me no matter how we were separated by the miles.

It really hurt to do this meditation, to think that I wouldn’t be able to hug you, hold you, or just say hello.

I let the hurt in and processed it, and low and behold

Behind it there were phenomenal people, more precious than gold.

It didn’t matter how long ago we met, or to what degree you knew me…your heart was shown to me.

So kind, so dear, so amazing it brought about many tears.

Upon coming out of this meditation

Left were the grateful feelings of knowing you

Allowing you to enter my mind and enter my heart

I know some of you have heard it before and it may be redundant, but I just want to make sure you know that because of you my life is lived with abundance…

You are a treasure, you bring me pleasure, perhaps you didn’t know…

Through our interactions, I grow, more and more each day, aware of the possibilities for our race and for the world.

Did you know that with one little word, a smile, or one little tear you had such an effect on a life?

Post updated in 2026 to include a songs that were created based on this poem combined with other writings of mine. Do you like one of them? 🙂
